어느날, Gray Area라는 지역의 강에 죽은 물고기들이 떠오르는 사건이 발생하였습니다. 우연히 그 현장을 목격한 주인공은 물고기들이 죽게 된 이유(원인)가 무엇인지 점검하게 됩니다.
도시와 숲, 강, 호수, 공장, 목장 등이 있는 Gray Area에서 물고기들의 폐사원인을 조사하는 과정에서 산성비, 부식, 염소와 침전물에 의한 공해, 먹이사슬, 화석연료 사용에 따른 공해, 목장과 공장의 폐수 등 현시대에 발생하고 있는 모든 공해 원인들을 점검해 보게 됩니다.
학생들 스스로 참여하며 토론식 또는 탐정식으로 조사하며 환경에 대한 문제점과 서로 복잡하게 연관되어 있는 현대의 환경문제를 탐구하게 됩니다.
